Modernized Havamal - Verse 48

The generous and brave person leads a good life,
seldom are they sad.
Cowards who are suspicious of everything,
and miserly with their money,
lead miserable lives, 
despite what they may think.

Modernized Havamal - Verse 47

When I was a young man,
I traveled alone and lost my way.
I felt so relieved when I met another man on the trail.
Men feel much better in each others company than alone.

Modernized Havamal - Verse 46

If a man you don't  trust,
is apparently speaking his mind to you,
laugh with him, and agree with him if you must.
But keep your true thoughts to yourself.
And if he is deceiving you, pay him back in kind.

Modernized Havamal - Verse 44

If you have a friend,
and know her to be loyal,
share your thoughts with her.
Exchange gifts and visit her often.

Modernized Havamal - Verse 43

A man should be faithful to his friends,
and the friends of his friends.
But a man should never be,
a friend to the enemy of his friends.

Modernized Havamal - Verse 42

A man should be faithful to his friends,
and exchange kindness and gifts.
Laugh and have a good time with him,
but if he lies to you, don't feel ashamed to lie in return.

Modernized Havamal - Verse 41

With gifts, shared challenges and family bonds,
friends build stronger relationships.
Those who share in the gifts life has to offer,
may have long lasting relationships.

Modernized Havamal - Verse 40

Many people work very hard to acquire things,
and then forget to enjoy all that they've worked for.
Take pleasure in what you've earned,
while you're still alive to do it.

Modernized Havamal - Verse 46
